Luke 4:4
“But Jesus answered him, saying, ‘It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’”
To live by every word of God, we must first know His Word—and to know it, we must read it. In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to be swept up in the busyness of daily life: catching buses, answering emails, and going through our routines. Many of us rely on a single Sunday service to fill us spiritually for the week.
But Jesus reminds us that we need more than physical nourishment to truly live. Just as our bodies need food, our souls need the Word of God. Jesus Himself is the Bread of Life and the living Word of God. When we feed on His Word daily, we draw closer to Him and receive strength for our journey.
That might look different for everyone. Maybe it’s reading one chapter a day, or perhaps it’s meditating on a single verse throughout the week—reflecting, praying, and even fasting over it. As Psalm 1:2 says, “His delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night.”
Taking time each day to meditate on God’s Word—whether during your commute, at the gym, while eating a meal, or before bed with your spouse—is a beautiful act of devotion. It allows His Word to dwell richly in your heart and shape how you live, think, and love.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I come to You today with a sincere heart, longing to know Your Word more deeply. Let my life and actions be shaped by the truth of Your Word. Help me find time each day to meditate on Scripture and draw closer to You.
Lord, I invite You into my heart—transform my thoughts and behaviours so that I may live according to Your will and reflect Your love in all I do.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
